You can buy just about anything online these days, cars, groceries, a date, even a new dog. It seems strange but people purchase dogs over the internet all the time. Some from breeders clear across the country. It’s almost the new designer thing to do. Personally, I think it’s ridiculous to purchase a dog across the country when there are so many unwanted dogs right in your own backyard. Why put the poor animal in such a stressful situation for traveling? I think it’s cruel but that’s just my opinion and may not count for much. So, if you are going to purchase a dog, here are some guidelines to help make the experience a little more pleasurable for both of you.

The internet has come a long way but it still can’t quite mimic the experience of actually touching and caressing a dog you may have chosen as a potential pet. All you can do is trust that the person selling the dog is being honest with you about the dog’s temperament and demeanor. A picture says a thousand words but unless you can come face to face and interact with the pup, I’m not really sure how you can be certain that he will make the perfect match for your family. But, I digress again. So, how do you choose a dog based on a picture and a paragraph? How do you know if the seller is reputable or not?

When looking online to purchase a dog, be very wary of an ad that professes to be selling “papered” purebred pups. Does this ad come from a credible licensed breeder or is it just an individual selling his litter of puppies and claiming them to be purebred? It’s pretty tricky because pictures of purebred pups do not resemble their adult counterparts at all so just seeing pictures will not be convincing. They must show proof of AKC membership for both the parents and the puppies as having been certified as purebred. Be sure you get a certificate of authenticity from the American Kennel Club with the appropriate documentation. Do some research ahead of time so you know what you’re looking at when you receive it as these documents can be easily forged as well. Purebred dogs are big business these days and just like anything else worth scamming, this is no exception.

Before you start a random search for reputable breeders, go to the American Kennel Club website and look for the link of approved breeders. I personally would trust the AKC of doing their homework as they would not be putting up breeder’s websites if they haven’t been checked out thoroughly. Even with this knowledge however, do not go head on and purchase a dog outright without doing some checking on your own as well. Play it safe throughout the whole process and if anything feels funny about the way the breeder does business, don’t ignore that feeling. Do a little more research to find out if what they’re doing is common practice among all breeders. Pretend that you are buying a car and that you want to make the best deal possible for what you’re getting even though what you get is far more precious than just a car.

Before you consider the sale complete, have the dog checked out thoroughly by your veterinarian to ensure that he is as healthy as the breeders documents claim him to be. If there is any discrepancy, speak to the seller and discuss what (if anything) needs to be done. There is a chance that the original vet check was indeed valid, and if it is only a minor injury or slight issue, keeping the dog might not be that big of a deal, but you should have part of your purchase price refunded to offset this medical care. Be careful, know what you are looking for and be wary of any thing that sounds far too good to be true.

If the idea of house training a pet is enough to keep you from getting a companion for your home, then a cat just might be the perfect pet for you. There’s very little training involved. All you need is some cat litter and a litter box, and you now have a pet that can stay inside all the time.

Many kittens are already litter trained by their mother so there’s really not much for you to do. Once you are sure he knows where the box is, you rarely need to worry about him going someplace else. But you will have to make a decision, and that is deciding what type of litter will work best.

There are an increasing number of options available, so it’s good to know a bit about each type before you run out and buy a bag.

If cost is a primary factor, clay litter is always a good bet. It’s cheaper and was one of the first commercial litters available. But it does have some drawbacks. You will need to clean it and change it more frequently. Clay absorbs liquid, but it also absorbs odors, and nobody wants their house to smell like cat waste. And if by chance your kitten is prone to allergies, clay may cause some problems. Dust tends to fly up as your pet scratches around in his box.

Clumping cat litter has replaced basic clay as the litter of choice for most pet owners. As soon as your cat goes, the litter works with the moisture in the waste and forms large clumps. That means all you need to do is scoop out the clumps, there’s no need to change the entire box. Then just put in more litter to replace what you just scooped. Clumping litter also comes with various scents to help hide the smell. So what are the drawbacks? Well some cats will eat the clumped waste. Watch your kitten to make certain this is not a problem.

Silica litters use water, sand, and crystals to control the odor and moisture. You’ve seen those little packets in new shoes or some medicines. Those packets are there to absorb moisture and contain silica. Because of it’s moisture absorbing capabilities, those same crystals are now used in cat litter. You scoop out the solid waste and the liquid is absorbed by the crystals. On the down side there is no clumping. On the plus side, this litter is usually biodegradable, returning to a sandy base when decomposed.

Paper litter is also biodegradable, making it a popular choice among those considered more “green.” Recycled paper or pellets are used to make this absorbent litter. It is also very light, making it easy to carry around.

Wood litters, in particular pine cat litter, are also biodegradable and quickly growing in popularity. Softwoods are great at absorbing liquids and odors. No chemicals are needed to help with the process meaning you get a more natural litter.

Here’s the concern; no matter what you think is best, your cat may wholeheartedly disagree. He may hate what you choose and he’ll let you know by not using it. Some won’t use silica because the crystals can irritate their paws. Others shy away from pine just because they don’t enjoy the smell. One good thing about cats is they will let you know what they don’t like and what they do like without being able to speak.

And while it is smart for you to know as much as possible about all the choices available to you, your cat will have the final word on whether or not you made the right decision.

For more details on these and other cat litter options visit CatLitterBoxesPlus.com. You’ll also learn about various litter boxes including the automatic cat litter box that makes clean up easy.

How many times have I hear fellow dog owners say, "I hate it when he barks non stop... or he utterly embarrassed me when he mounts people's leg". Dog owners usually have no problems to fill in tons of their dog behavioral problems into the above statements.

How many times have I hear fellow dog owners say, “I hate it when he barks non stop… or he utterly embarrassed me when he mounts people’s leg”. Dog owners usually have no problems to fill in tons of their dog behavioral problems into the above statements.

I have to admit that I feel disappointed, even sad whenever I hear dog owners say that statement. Why? Because, these owners have failed to see things from their dog’s prospective! To put it simply, I should say that they don’t understand their dogs at all.

Dogs do not misbehave because they’re spiteful, or are out to annoy or anger you. They just behave in a manner which is expected of a dog! I asked my Veterinarian Newport Beach about the problem.

The fact is that dog behavioral problems that we can’t stand are not problems at all to the dogs. In fact, do you know that dogs “misbehave” for a reason or two? To list a few:

1. Dogs bark because they have something to say, something to tell you.

2. Dogs dig because they smell something underneath the ground.

3. Dogs chew because they are teething and are feeling uncomfortable.

4. Dogs chase after moving objects because they are following its instinct.

5. Dogs turn aggressive because they want to protect you.

For your information, most dogs actually misbehaved (in our eyes) because of the lack of care, concern and training from their very own owners:

1. Health Issue – Many behaviorists & dog trainers believe that at least 20% of all behavior problems are related to the dog’s health in some way or another. For all that you might know. Your dog could be misbehaving because he is sick or in pain. Bring him to the vet for a thorough check-up if he misbehaves suddenly when he has always been a good dog.

2. Imbalance Diet – Feeding your dog the wrong food, with too high in protein, fat or carbohydrates is known to cause hyperactivity. Sugars, starches and many other factors in your dog’s diet can also cause behavioral problems in your dog. Always read the label of the food before you feed him, seek advice if necessary. Remember that dogs need different type of food in different stages of their life.

3. Exercise – Lack of exercise also cause plentiful of problems. A dog that doesn’t get enough exercise is unhealthy and tends to be hyperactive, and display destructive behaviors. Dogs depending on breed type need plentiful of exercises – Do consider this factor before you get a puppy.

4. Lack of Leadership -I can’t stress enough on the importance of the leadership issue. Dogs display TONS of behavioral problems when they lack a leader. Aggressive & destructive behaviors, leg lifting, marking, mounting, barking & etc… It’s very important that you assume the role of the alpha leader!

You must understand that all dog develop behavior problems. These dog behavior problems never develop in a vacuum. They are always the outcome of the interaction between a dog and its environment, including you! Most canine behavioral problems can be controlled if not solved completely. You just got to put in some effort and understand that prevention is better than cure.

Lastly, do try to see and comprehend things from your dog’s prospective the next time your dog misbehaves. You’ll soon find that you love him even more!

If you are a lover of dogs and also have many or at least one as a loving pet, then you would certainly need good dog collar for your dog. The dog collar is used to harness the dog and keep it controlled with help of a leash. The collar should be made of comfortable and strong material.

Very interestingly, there are many types of dog collars in the market that you may find it hard to decide on. You can get them in different materials and collars etc. Based on your inclination you can choose a dog collar that you simply feel is ideal. You can get your dog collar of your liking available at various pet stores or even at a web-based shopping portal. The need is to settle on what kind of fabric and design you would like for your dog and search on the appropriate location.

Buckle Collar is a popular collar that is well liked by many owners. It is also called flat collar and is created from leather or nylon. You will find other materials like hemp, polyester etc. The buckle is similar to a buckle in a belt with holes and a Pin that fits in the holes. A strong leash can be attached to this belt. Identification and other medical tags can be attached to this kind of collar.

In case you want to have a collar that also safeguards your dog from various infections and allergies that can be caused due to licking and scratching a wound then you can use Elizabethan Collars. Yes, these collars may look a little odd but you must remember that they are used mainly for protection. Nylon Collars is another type of collar that are commonly used as they are quite affordable and easy to use. There are also unique flea collars which are injected with chemicals that keep the fleas away.

There are also special break away collars present with which the dog can free itself in case there is an extra pressure exerted on dog’s neck. Such collars come in handy in case of a situation when a collar can get fixed and strangle the neck of the dog.

There are also fashionable and great looking collars available which add a zing to the look of your cute pet. Studded and designer dog collars can be expensive but they certainly look great on your dog.

Whew! That’s a lot of collars to look at. I’m sure that you will find the right collar for your pet dog!

Housebreaking a dog or puppy is often the most stressful aspect of owning a pet. However, the process can be less challenging if you have a few tips to help you out. This article will give you pointers on dog potty training based around the concept of accident prevention rather than punishment.

Puppies are a lot like children in that their minds are like sponges, which is why most people begin obedience and potty training when during puppyhood. The main thing which you must understand before beginning the training process is that a puppy does have limited control of his bladder, so it is best if you admit to yourself that accidents will happen, and come to terms with the idea. A good thing you can do for your puppy is to buy him a crate or similar place that will be his own “personal” space. That way, if you’re unable to watch him for a time, the accident will be in the crate and not somewhere around the house where you may not notice for a while.

Keeping to a regular schedule is the key to preventing accidents and potty training your dog or puppy. Take your dog out first thing in the morning, thirty minutes after every meal, and right before bed. Also, feed your puppy on a strict schedule. If it goes in on a schedule, it will come out on a schedule! It is important to initially praise your dog every time you take him out and he does his business. This helps reinforce to the animal that this is the correct spot to eliminate in.

When an accident does occur, don’t get upset or hit your dog. If you didn’t catch him in the act, simply put him in his crate while you clean up the mess. There is no point in trying to punish him, as he will not know why he is in trouble. If you do catch him in the act, giving him a firm ‘No!’ will let him know you are upset. Immediately take him to the proper spot outside and praise him if he goes again.

Though it requires dedication and patience on your part, training your dog by keeping to a routine to avoid messes in the first place is much more effective than trying to teach him through punishment. Now that you have succeeded in dog potty training, you can move on to teaching him to bring you the remote! Or for the little or arthritic dog, train him to use dog stairs! Even if your dog is perfectly healthy, pet steps can greatly reduce the amount of impact your dog’s joints receive.
