If you are the owner of a pet bird, you’d be well capable with the costs of bird food. It is pricey and can so have a great effect on your budget. But, You don’t have to burn a hole in your pocket to get the right food for your pet bird. One or two straightforward things will help you a fair deal in saving on bird food.

One of the best ways by which you save on your bird food expenses is by buying it in bulk. Bulk buying is often more cost-effective, especially in the case of products like bird food. Most people tend to buy small packets of bird food when they require it. While this is undeniably more convenient, bulk buying is more affordable. You can buy bird food in bulk from wholesale markets in your locality.

The only downside to bulk purchasing is that it calls for need of acceptable storage. To store bird food correctly, you’ll need plastic galvanized containers. Go in for water tight boxes as they do not hold any moisture and prevent the food from getting spoiled. Always store bird food in a cool and dry place.

Another effective option in this context is to make purchase on the internet. All you need to do is to log in to the internet and you can easily get in contact with several online sellers that can supply you with the very pocket friendly bird food options. In sharp relief to the regular stores, the net sellers don’t have to care about the costs of a store. Here it is quite obvious that you need to foot in the bill of the shipping charges. However the general cost still comes out to be actually less. Do not settle in for any online seller. Explore your option and keep the prices in consideration before you settle in for any specific online vendor selling bird food.

You can cut down a fair deal on the amount you are spending on bird food by curtailing the waste. Attempt to ensure if you’re filling the feeders too often. When the birds get food on an highly frequent basis, they generally have a tendency to spill over the extra portion. Do not fill in the feeder for one or two days. This could inspire your bird to eat whatever has fallen within the cage.

Another good option that may aid you save plenty of cash on the bird food is to grow the food yourself. You can try growing some sunflowers. Growing sunflowers can offer a twin advantage to you. On one hand it’ll augment the beauty of your garden. On the other hand it’ll help you serve your pet bird ample amount of food without shelling any additional cash from your pocket.

You need not make your pet bird starve. Just try these simple tips and you are bound to keep yourself as well as your pet bird happy.

Seattle Slew–the last living Triple Crown winner–died on May 7, 2002 at the age of 28. As one of only 11 Triple Crown winners in history, he is by default one of the greatest horses in the history of thoroughbred racing. Of those 11 legendary animals, Seattle Slew was the only one to complete the Triple Crown with an undefeated record, as well as the only one to have been purchased at a public auction. After retiring in’78, Slew became one of the most important and successful stud horses in the history of the sport. He sired 1,066 foals including 102 stakes race winners. Among this impressive group of offspring was the’84 Kentucky Derby winner, Swale. All told, Slew’s offspring have won an amazing $76 million dollars at the race track. Slew’s stud fee of $300,000 made him a very profitable horse even after his racing career was over. Slew wasn’t a particularly attractive horse, but he had the toughness of a championship boxer and the sort of intestinal fortitude and desire that can only be given by The Creator.

The Seattle Slew story began very modestly at a public auction in Lexington, Kentucky. The Keeneland Summer Yearling sale wasn’t supposed to be the marketplace of champions, and the idea that this particular horse would ever amount to anything other than a farmhand was downright laughable. Slew looked clumsy, due primarily to a right forefoot that splayed outward and resulting in a shuffling gait at a trot. He also wasn’t a majestic beast like his predecessor by a few years, Secretariat. Slew was borderline ugly. So ungainly a creature was he that he was given the less than inspiring nickname “Baby Huey” by the Keeneland staff. He was purchased by two couples (Karen and Mickey Taylor and Jim and Sally Hill) for $17,500. What wasn’t apparent at the yearling sale was the intangibles that make up a championship thoroughbred–poise under pressure, love of competition, toughness, heart and desire. The Taylor’s and Hill’s had stumbled onto an equine Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan who’s competitive fire quickly became apparent to the trainers that worked with him and the jockeys that rode him. His first race came at Belmont in’76, and the three races he entered–and won–as a 2 year old gave a hint of what was to come.

As a three year old, he quickly gained notice by winning his three Derby prep races, including the prestigious Wood Memorial. In the Derby, Slew got off to a terrible start as he stumbled from the gate much like War Emblem did in the 2002 Belmont. Unlike 2002’s Triple Crown contender, however, Slew was able to recover from that miscue and basically force his way through a pack of other horses to position himself at the front of the field at the quarter mile pole. He went on to win the Derby by a length and 3 quarters. Another tough victory in the Preakness set up his Triple Crown winning run at the Belmont, which he won by 4 lengths.

Slew ran in a few races as a 4 year old but in the pre-Breeders’ Cup days there wasn’t as many opportunities for an older horse. He retired to stud in’78, where he sired champions such as the aforementioned Swale and’92 Belmont Champ AP Indy.

Slew may not have earned the appreciation he deserved in his prime, coming so closely on the heels of the charismatic’73 Triple Crown winner Secretariat–arguably the greatest thoroughbred race horse in history. The jockeys that rode him, however, understood fully what a special animal they were dealing with. Jockey Angel Cordero gave Seattle Slew this lofty praise: “If I had a chance to take any horse in the world, if someone said your life is depending on riding one horse to win, I would take (Slew). I rode 44,000 horses, but he was special, he was different. He was muscled, like a wrestler. He ran different than any other horse. It was like he came from another planet.”

After his death in 2002, Slew was buried at Hill ‘n’ Dale Farm in Lexington, Kentucky under a statue in his image.

There is no need to go into a tizzy when trying to choose the right dog food for a pet. While there are quite a few varieties available, there are ways to sort through them. By doing some research on a specific breed of a dog and the dog food that is available, it will be much easier to match one with the other.

First, puppies need different types of food than adult dogs. Once a puppy moves on to solid food, they should be eating puppy specific food. Most major dog food companies make food that is specific to their dietary needs. For people who purchase a puppy, it may take a little give and take before finding the food that the dog truly enjoys.

The adult dog, on the other hand, will have a much wider selection to choose from in the way of dog food. Whichever one is selected, be sure that the nutritional content is geared toward an adult dog in the correct age range. The majority of adult dog food is manufactured to contain all of the minerals, vitamins and dietary supplements to keep an adult dog healthy.

There are quite a few varieties of pet foods that are designed to meet a specific need for the animal. Most manufacturers will offer varieties designed specifically for smaller dogs and an equal amount designed for larger breeds. There are also foods designed for dogs that may have a weight issue and others that lend themselves to promoting healthy skin and a shiny coat.

An obese dog will want to limit his or her calorie intake. Many companies make special food specifically designed for obese dogs. Dog obesity is rarely a direct result of normal dog foods and instead normally stems from excessive consumption of table scraps and scavenging.

Older adults also need a specifically designed food due to their age and amount of daily activity. With lessened daily activity, older dogs will need a much lower daily caloric intake that an active middle-aged dog or a puppy. These foods are also designed to contain extra vitamins and dietary supplements to aid an older dog in enjoying his golden years.

Obviously, there is quite a bit of thought that should go into picking out the proper dog food. However, once a pet owner understands his or her dog’s specific needs, choosing the right type of food suddenly becomes much easier. There is no reason to be intimidated in the doggie food isle ever again. It is easy to make the right choice of food for your furry friend and as long as you take time to learn the differences in the various types of foods that are offered for them.

If the idea of house training a pet is enough to keep you from getting a companion for your home, then a cat just might be the perfect pet for you. There’s very little training involved. All you need is some cat litter and a litter box, and you now have a pet that can stay inside all the time.

Many kittens are already litter trained by their mother so there’s really not much for you to do. Once you are sure he knows where the box is, you rarely need to worry about him going someplace else. But you will have to make a decision, and that is deciding what type of litter will work best.

There are an increasing number of options available, so it’s good to know a bit about each type before you run out and buy a bag.

If cost is a primary factor, clay litter is always a good bet. It’s cheaper and was one of the first commercial litters available. But it does have some drawbacks. You will need to clean it and change it more frequently. Clay absorbs liquid, but it also absorbs odors, and nobody wants their house to smell like cat waste. And if by chance your kitten is prone to allergies, clay may cause some problems. Dust tends to fly up as your pet scratches around in his box.

Clumping cat litter has replaced basic clay as the litter of choice for most pet owners. As soon as your cat goes, the litter works with the moisture in the waste and forms large clumps. That means all you need to do is scoop out the clumps, there’s no need to change the entire box. Then just put in more litter to replace what you just scooped. Clumping litter also comes with various scents to help hide the smell. So what are the drawbacks? Well some cats will eat the clumped waste. Watch your kitten to make certain this is not a problem.

Silica litters use water, sand, and crystals to control the odor and moisture. You’ve seen those little packets in new shoes or some medicines. Those packets are there to absorb moisture and contain silica. Because of it’s moisture absorbing capabilities, those same crystals are now used in cat litter. You scoop out the solid waste and the liquid is absorbed by the crystals. On the down side there is no clumping. On the plus side, this litter is usually biodegradable, returning to a sandy base when decomposed.

Paper litter is also biodegradable, making it a popular choice among those considered more “green.” Recycled paper or pellets are used to make this absorbent litter. It is also very light, making it easy to carry around.

Wood litters, in particular pine cat litter, are also biodegradable and quickly growing in popularity. Softwoods are great at absorbing liquids and odors. No chemicals are needed to help with the process meaning you get a more natural litter.

Here’s the concern; no matter what you think is best, your cat may wholeheartedly disagree. He may hate what you choose and he’ll let you know by not using it. Some won’t use silica because the crystals can irritate their paws. Others shy away from pine just because they don’t enjoy the smell. One good thing about cats is they will let you know what they don’t like and what they do like without being able to speak.

And while it is smart for you to know as much as possible about all the choices available to you, your cat will have the final word on whether or not you made the right decision.

For more details on these and other cat litter options visit CatLitterBoxesPlus.com. You’ll also learn about various litter boxes including the automatic cat litter box that makes clean up easy.

You will be able to find all of your pets foods and even their treats in these great stores.

The overall selection of food that you will find is huge and will contain just about any flavor that your pet could ever crave. Most generally you will find that these stores will actually carry the higher end brands with just a few choices in the middle priced ranges.
Along with all the great foods and vitamins you will also find tons of different cat and dog beds and even a kitty condo. All of these items are more common than a lot of people may think, but they also carry a variety of different items that you may not have thought of, such as a massage blanket for your puppies. They will never leave their bed again.

You will find a lot of different cute and cuddly animals in these stores. With all of the toys and accessories they have available these days for your pets, you could spend a very long time in one of these stores.

How many times have I hear fellow dog owners say, “I hate it when he barks non stop… or he utterly embarrassed me when he mounts people’s leg”. Dog owners usually have no problems to fill in tons of their dog behavioral problems into the above statements.

I have to admit that I feel disappointed, even sad whenever I hear dog owners say that statement. Why? Because, these owners have failed to see things from their dog’s prospective! To put it simply, I should say that they don’t understand their dogs at all.

Dogs do not misbehave because they’re spiteful, or are out to annoy or anger you. They just behave in a manner which is expected of a dog! I asked my Veterinarian Newport Beach about the problem.

The fact is that dog behavioral problems that we can’t stand are not problems at all to the dogs. In fact, do you know that dogs “misbehave” for a reason or two? To list a few:

1. Dogs bark because they have something to say, something to tell you.

2. Dogs dig because they smell something underneath the ground.

3. Dogs chew because they are teething and are feeling uncomfortable.

4. Dogs chase after moving objects because they are following its instinct.

5. Dogs turn aggressive because they want to protect you.

For your information, most dogs actually misbehaved (in our eyes) because of the lack of care, concern and training from their very own owners:

1. Health Issue – Many behaviorists & dog trainers believe that at least 20% of all behavior problems are related to the dog’s health in some way or another. For all that you might know. Your dog could be misbehaving because he is sick or in pain. Bring him to the vet for a thorough check-up if he misbehaves suddenly when he has always been a good dog.

2. Imbalance Diet – Feeding your dog the wrong food, with too high in protein, fat or carbohydrates is known to cause hyperactivity. Sugars, starches and many other factors in your dog’s diet can also cause behavioral problems in your dog. Always read the label of the food before you feed him, seek advice if necessary. Remember that dogs need different type of food in different stages of their life.

3. Exercise – Lack of exercise also cause plentiful of problems. A dog that doesn’t get enough exercise is unhealthy and tends to be hyperactive, and display destructive behaviors. Dogs depending on breed type need plentiful of exercises – Do consider this factor before you get a puppy.

4. Lack of Leadership -I can’t stress enough on the importance of the leadership issue. Dogs display TONS of behavioral problems when they lack a leader. Aggressive & destructive behaviors, leg lifting, marking, mounting, barking & etc… It’s very important that you assume the role of the alpha leader!

You must understand that all dog develop behavior problems. These dog behavior problems never develop in a vacuum. They are always the outcome of the interaction between a dog and its environment, including you! Most canine behavioral problems can be controlled if not solved completely. You just got to put in some effort and understand that prevention is better than cure.

Lastly, do try to see and comprehend things from your dog’s prospective the next time your dog misbehaves. You’ll soon find that you love him even more!

It’s not unusual for a vaccinated dog to fall ill with distemper or viral enteritis. That’s why many owners think that vaccination is a waste of time and money. Rumors about unsuccessful vaccination are more contagious than the diseases dogs can get. Dogs are not inoculated, and this is one of the reasons of presence of permanent nidus of infection. Another reason of wholesale deaths of pets is a lack of clear program of inoculations.

If vaccinated mothers give birth to the puppies, they are passively protected during their early life by antibodies got perinatally (through placenta) and with the first portions of a foremilk newborn puppies receive she-dog’s antibodies. Against the majority of illnesses titre (level) of maternal antibodies goes down to age of 9-12 weeks and puppies become the most susceptible to infections.

A puppy receives approximately 90 % of maternal antibodies through a foremilk, and only 10 % of antibodies they get intransplacentally. “Typical” puppy after its birth has such level of serum antibodies, which is equal to 50 % of female’s antibody level. This level of antibodies goes down every 10 days.

So, is it necessary to vaccinate dogs?
Yes, of course. It is necessary; because correct calendar of inoculations provides an almost 100% guarantee of good health for your dog. I say “almost” because full guarantee cannot be given by any vaccine. The effect after vaccination depends not only on quality of medicine, but also on general well-being of a dog in the moment of an inoculation. Any weakening of an organism (intestinal worms, scant feeding etc.) can cause depression of immune system, and the inoculation will not give the desirable result. That’s why indispensable condition is a vaccination of healthy animals only.

The most widespread dog’s infectious diseases are distemper, contagious hepatitis, leptospirosis and parvovirus enteritis. A clinical course is very hard; for many puppies and adult dogs the outcome of it can be tragical. That’s why vaccination against these illnesses is extremely desirable. Such acute infectious viral disease of the nervous system as lyssa is of rare occurrence, but it is pernicious disease not only for a dog, but also for the owner. That’s why vaccination against it is obligatory, there is a law to break which cannot be broken by anyone.

On the earliest stage of puppy’s life (first year) it is necessary to vaccinate it 4 times. Before first, third and fourth inoculations it is necessary to give a vermifuge to a puppy. Diet is not required.

After first vaccination don’t walk over your puppy!!! After second vaccination you can walk your pet in 10-14 days. After third and fourth vaccination your dog does not need quarantine, but as well as after every vaccination, it is recommended to reduce physical activities and not to expose puppy to excessive cold.

Pets are not just “alive” beings that live with us, pet are far beyond that notions. And you are really responsible for them. Those of you who have dogs, must know info about dog health. This is not a bizarre statement, this is what your pet really needs from you.

Vaccinations may be covered by pet insurance. Go online to get a pet insurance comparison to find out which policies cover preventative expenses like vaccinations.

Hypoglycemia, also referred to as low blood sugar is known as a condition resulting in a sudden drop in blood glucose in a puppy. It is a problem frequently noticed in the toy breeds. It can also be found in smaller puppies of a litter in comparison to other litter mates or underweight puppies. It can be brought on by lack of food consumption, stress, infections or poor diet. Puppies and yorkie puppies alike are most vulnerable to hypoglycemia from 2 days to five months of age. 2 day old puppies having hypoglycemia can usually be attributed to a newborn puppy nursing on its mother but not being successful in getting enough milk. Supplement feeding is required for a puppy in this case to prevent fading puppy syndrome that will lead to dehydration and death. Newborn puppies needs to be weighed at birth and then again everyday to monitor weight gain. If no weight gain is noticed within 24 to 32 hours after birth, or any loss of weight, supplement feeding must be given to avoid fading puppy syndrome. Other signs besides no weight gain or even weight loss is that the puppy will become colder as body temperature lowers, and the skin will lose elasticity indicating dehydration. If gone untreated, the result is deadly.

Signs of hypoglycemia in an older puppy’s are generally the puppy will appear limp and lethargic. The gums and tongue will lack color, they could shiver or tremble. Other signs is often weakness, confusion, wobbly gait, frothing or drooling, wobbling of the head, and in some cases seizures and convolutions.

Some causes of hypoglycemia can be as follows:

Over-handling young puppies, not allowing them enough rest or sleep.
Puppies not getting enough nutrition nursing on their mother, or eating an adequate amount of food during their meal.
Stress due to any change in its environment.
Switching diets to a different brand of food and or weaning .
Stress due to any type of traveling. (Regular outings should be limited until five to six months of age).
Bacterial infections or intestinal parasites.
Poor diet or poor eating habits.

Newborn puppies require plenty of rest. It is wise to contain them to 1 room when young. Keep puppies confined with lots of water, puppy pads, a soft bed, toys and don’t skip scheduled feedings. This will likely help avoid the possibility of your new Yorkie puppy over exerting himself when playing. It is important for them to get ample rest. Limit playtime to small intervals in the course of the day.

Hypoglycemia in older Yorkshire Terrier puppies is often triggered by stress or even a missed meal or a combination of both. Always keep available a highly palatable high calorie paste. Some such brands are Nutri Stat or Nutri Cal. To help you avoid hypoglycemia, puppy paste could be given to your puppy during and prior to any types of stressful situations such as travel, vaccinations, strenuous exercise, low temperatures, changing of homes, absences of a recent meal, or lack of rest.

Stress and improper nutrition can cause the blood sugar to drop to dangerously low levels. Always feed a high quality dog food 3 to 5 times a day depending on age. The younger they are, the more frequent they should be feed.

Treatment:

Blood sugar levels need to be restored as soon as possible. One way of doing this is to use something such as Nutri Cal or Nutri Drops ¼ cc per pound. Take note to follow directions on the Nutri Drop bottle. When using Nutri Cal place two inches on your forefinger and wipe it on the roof of your Yorkie puppy’s mouth. Repeat in 30 minute intervals if needed. Honey, sugar or Karo syrup will work in a pinch if rubbed on the roof of the mouth. Only use puppy paste or Nutri drops, or the honey or Karo syrup substitute. Never combine them. Follow the above with spoon feeding your Yorkie puppy with baby food, stages 1, beef flavored.

Making sure the Yorkshire Terrier puppy is warm is another essential part of treatment as body temperature goes down whenever a puppy has hypoglycemia. In progressive stages of hypoglycemia this happens very rapidly. A temperature that falls below 96 degrees usually ends in a coma. Keeping the puppy warm with blankets or heating pad set at low during treatment will aid in the puppy’s recovery process.

Yorkie breeders give frequent feedings of 4 to five times each day is recommended for puppies at risk to prevent hypoglycemia. Feed moist or semi moist food to ensure it is more palatable and use only premium dog food made specifically for puppies. Puppies which can be more vulnerable to hypoglycemia are tiny puppies, underweight puppies, puppies weaned to early or placed to soon to new homes (12 weeks should be minimum age). Most outgrow this condition at 4 to 6 months of age. Puppies with estimated adult weight under 4 lbs are at higher risk of occurrence and could have several episodes throughout their lifetime. Always pay careful attention to eating habits and diet of any tiny toy puppy.
